My answer to the optional homework

If you haven't read my optional homework post, here it is:

http://lambs-supper.blogspot.com/2011/09/optional-homework.html

My reply was sent September 5 2011, and is as follows:

2 Chron. 20:20 says to trust in the prophets of the Lord. But does not reference scripture at all. Hypothetically there could be prophets outside of the scriptures, and this says to listen to them also.

Isa. 8:20 says that the book of Isaiah will furnish instruction... but does not say that it is the sole rule of faith; nor does it say that in reference to all scripture.

Amos 3:7 says nothing about written word in any way.

Prov. 3:5, 6 says, once more, nothing about any written word at all.

I don't understand how these passages lead to the idea of using scripture as a sole rule of faith. Is that a biblical idea at all? What did Christians use in 250ad (Bible was put together in 397ad)?
Was theology 100% scripture based at that time, or did that idea arrive later?

John 16:13 isn't something he said to the masses on the sermon on the mount, but rather, he said it in the privacy of his last supper before his death. This doesn't say Jesus gave guaranteed interpretation to all his followers, only the apostles. So, how does that authority get passed on from them?

2 Peter 1:21 is directly preceded by "there is no prophecy of scripture that is a matter of personal interpretation," so that seems to suggest that all scripture should be interpreted only by one with the authority to do so (cf. Acts 8:31).

Numbers 12:6 says nothing about scripture, or interpretation of scripture. God, here, is speaking about how Moses is different from other prophets. He will speak face-to-face with Moses, but will come to other prophets in dreams.

If God intended everyone to privately interpret the Scriptures, with the Holy Spirit guiding everyone into all truth, how did we end up with 33,000 different conflicting interpretations? Does the Holy Spirit conflict himself?

I appreciate your efforts to clear up these confusions!

Well, I waited quite a while for them to reply to my email, and I haven't received anything. I'm still very curious as to whether or not anyone has any rebuttal you can send me. Put them in the comments section below this post or send them to me! lambssupper@gmail.com.

God bless!
